Lago Maggiore

We are back on the blog! Sorry for long silence again…

This post will be all about our stay in Lago Maggiore. Lago means lake and the lake’s name is Maggiore.

We visited this lake, but a different town, three years ago with Cosmos. At that time we visited a beach club called Lido which had a secret stash of dog treats from which Cosmos was fed over and over again by the owner.

This time we booked our stay in a town called Angera and a hotel called Tigli. We payed about €200 for two nights including breakfast and a fee for bringing Molly.

The hotel was very clean and the staff very accessible and friendly. Our room had some beauty remarks but I don’t care about that as long as it’s clean. There was one table at the breakfast where we were allowed to bring Molly.

The hotel receptionist told us that it was ok to go swimming in the lake anywhere but we found out that parts of the public beaches weren’t dog friendly. But a small, rather private part of the public beach was dog friendly and we loved it there!

The first night we went out for pizza at a place called Damino. This place is very popular and I can see why. With a direct view of the lake, delicious Italian pizza and quick service it’s hard not to like it.

As we are Swede’s we tend to have dinner a bit too early regarding the heat. The Italians don’t have dinner until about 8 or 9 which is much better.

All over this little town there’s these signs where you were offered poop bags for dogs. Some municipalities in Sweden have those as well and I think they are so smart! More of these in Sweden please.

The next day we found the beach and hung there for quite some time. A man and his dog came by and they played together for a long time in the water. His dog looked so happy and didn’t even acknowledge the fact that Molly was shouting bad words at him the whole time…

In the afternoon we had a small sandwich and panini lunch at a cute little place along the street that goes through this town.

Next to us sat some older Italians and one of the ladies said in Italian to Molly "I am your grandma now" because Molly loved the attention from this lady.

After lunch Molly’s husse decided to walk up to the old castle of the city but Molly and I had to stay behind in the hotel due to the heat being too much for both of us.

That night we had dinner at a place called Del Torchio. It seemed to be a rather new place and since there aren’t many tourists in Angera and the Italians don’t have their vacation until august the place was empty except for us and an elderly couple. But it didn’t mind us because the food and drinks were the best we’ve had since we got here.

After dinner we went for a walk and then walked back to the same street where we had dinner and went to another place we had scouted for a drink. Twice that day people had misunderstood me and served me a Aperol Spritz which I find disgusting haha. But like the Swede I am I said nothing and drank more Aperol in one day than I have ever had.

The day of our departure from this lovely place we spent some time at the dog friendly beach again before heading back home with a detour to the vet again for a check up on Molly’s eye.

The vet said that it looked much better but not fully normal so we continue with the cream until we get home and I will see a vet at my workplace then.

I would really recommend you to visit Lago Maggiore, it’s much less tourists than Como and Garda but just as beautiful.

And there are several small towns around the lake to explore.
